About Contrast

Four or five objects sit on screen, drawn to look like copies of one another, and exactly one of them is wrong. Early stages make it plain — a monkey wearing a party hat among plain monkeys — but across the twenty levels the difference shrinks to a shade of green or a curl that bends the other way, and finding it becomes proper scanning rather than a glance. No timer pushes you and there is no second picture to compare against, which is what sets it apart from the usual side-by-side format: the answer has to be worked out from the group itself, in a jungle scene of waterfalls, parrots and leaves.

How to Play

Look over the group of similar objects and tap or click the single one that does not match the rest.
Compare one feature at a time across the whole set — colour first, then shape, then the small details — instead of studying each object in turn.
A wrong tap costs nothing but the attempt, so scan before you commit rather than guessing to narrow it down.
Clear all twenty levels; the objects stay similar but the distinguishing detail keeps getting smaller.

Contrast FAQ

How is this different from a spot-the-difference game?

There are no paired images. You get one group of four or five near-identical objects and have to identify the odd one from the group alone, which rules out the usual trick of flicking your eyes between two frames.

Is it suitable for young children?

The first several levels are, since the odd object is obvious and nothing is timed. The later ones narrow the difference to subtle colour and line changes that will hold an adult up too.
